IT SUCKS!!!!
I'm legitimately sorry to anyone who reads this and genuinely liked the movie, but Holy Celestia, this movie was nothing more than padding, two-dimensional, shallow characters, and setup for something that BARELY even happened!
The entire Crystal Prep school is written with barely a second thought, they're just a bunch of obnoxious @$$holes with annoying one-note traits and that's ALL we know about them! We never get to know than better or see WHY specifically any of them are acting the way they are; they legitimately exist SOLELY for the purpose of making Canterlot High look less crppY!
But by far the worst is 'Principal Cinch'! There is nothing even remotely likable or interesting about her, she exists ONLY to serve as the antagonist BECAUSE these dumb@$$ movies MUST ALWAYS have an antagonist! She's prideful, selfish, entirely self-centered, and is willing to let her students DIE in favor of herself! WORSE STILL, she is willing to risk the lives of everyone SO THAT HER SCHOOL CAN WIN A STUPID COMPETITION!!!!!!
Oh yeah, and as for the 'Friendship Games' themselves? Pointless. They're not even essential to the climax, unlike in 'Rainbow Rocks' where at least the BOTB was key to defeating the Dazzlings in the climax. Not to mention that there's WAY too much emphasis on this thing and not, oh I don't know, the LIFE THREATENING DANGERS PRESENT! Seriously, almost everyone cares more about the games than they do about these magic anomalies.
And how was Twilight able to build that magic gadget, anyway??? Never explained.
And then there's the ending... just... holy frick... the ending...
Now, before I continue, I would just like to say that I did have my own idea for the ending, and it goes something like this:
You all remember how Celestia warned Twilight of an 'imbalance' in the first movie? Well, this ending is the followup to that warning; because of all the travel between worlds over the years and because both worlds operate [apparently] on differently functioning timelines, this movie would be where that Imbalance finally comes into play as [like in the 'Reflections' comic arc] the two worlds start to merge with each other, causing the ponies from Equestria to start crossing over into the humanverse. There's no real antagonist to this story, only the damage done to the multiverse caused in part by Sunset Shimmer. In the end, Shimmer is forced to forever seal the rift and by extension the gateway, leaving her permanently trapped in the human world. everyone is safe, but its a bittersweet ending as Shimmer -regardless of having since reformed, must now live with a hefty consequence of her past evils, though not all is gloomy because she has her Humane-6 friends and Alternate Twilight and Spike to help her move on. I personally quite like this alternative because its a way to show kids how to deal with Reality, how to take karma, both good and bad, and a reminder that no matter how much you've changed, your past will always catch up with you. A very mature ending, in my opinion.
Spoiler alert, this is pretty much the opposite of what they did.
I won't spoil it for any of you, but I will say that in regards to the actual ending, I really do get what they were trying to go for, there, but almost everything in the climax was as if it were pulled right out of a cow's @$$ and dn't make any sense to me. That ending was the last straw for me, I now have no faith at all in these movies or the proposed spin-off TV series.
I didn't want to hate this movie, I really didn't, but there were just so many things wrong with this that i can no longer let these movies off easily. This was beyond disappointment,
This movie, plain and simple; is Failure.
2023 End of the Year Address
Well, another year has come and gone. We are now four years into the third decade of the new millennium. And, as I’m sure we all remember; this decade didn’t exactly start off with a bang. I mean, well, it DID; but it was more like a gunshot to the knee, courtesy of your idiot best friend, who decided to get stone drunk before playing with his dad’s anti-home-invader handgun. But have things improved, since 2020? Have the past three years shown any uptick? Well, the short answer is ‘No’, but the long answer is far more complicated, but to summarize the long answer just a bit, I’ll say that things WILL get better, but things might very well have to get worse, first. Now for the proper long answer; Not necessarily much happened in the world of politics and current events. Oh, there are some definitive standouts, don’t get me wrong, but the waves of chaos and madness have become more like irritated ripples in a lake. With the 2024 US election approaching, Trump has been gearing up
Merry 2023 Christmas!
This year might have been a bit of a load for me, but I still managed to get in my usual haul of deviations for the yearly Christmas dump! Plenty of additions to my Lego Thomas and Friends gallery, as usual; Some rebuilds of a couple classic, but forgotten Lego lines [Slizers and Roboriders] I've also gone back to Marvel Brickfigures, but with a fun twist And a few others things I've also recently posted a 'Let's Talk About' journal entry on the Tree of Harmony, and I have two completed [if late] Halloween videos, set to debut later, today As alluded; its been a bit of a wide load, this year, but making all of these been a fun experience, and getting them out on time has made the process all the more worth it. Merry Christmas, everyone!
Lets Talk About the Tree of Harmony
Reluctantly, the elder sister harnessed the most powerful magic known to ponydom: the Elements of Harmony. Using the magic of the Elements of Harmony, she defeated her younger sister, and banished her permanently in the moon. TWILIGHT SPARKLE: “Hmm... Elements of Harmony. I know I've heard of those before... but where?” Deep in the heart of the Everfree Forest, beneath the ruined Castle of the Two Sisters, and hidden within a cave at the bottom of a ravine… sits the Tree of Harmony. An ancient, beautiful thing of great and wondrous power, and upon it’s branches rest the six Elements of Harmony; Loyalty, Generosity, Kindness, Honesty, Laughter, and finally, Magic. These are, perhaps; the greatest magic Equestria has ever known. First introduced to us as magical relics used to defeat the dreaded Nightmare Moon, the Elements of Harmony quickly become a matter of great interest for Twilight Sparkle, and in her yearning to learn more about them, she becomes familiar with Nightmare
We Now Know the Origin of the Alicorns... Kind of
Well, loathe as I am to keep talking about MLPgen5, I recently came across yet ANOTHER information update that bothers me. Now, full disclosure, at this point, I simply DO NOT consider Gen5 in ANY way canon to Gen4. The only reason it even TRIES to be a sequel to FiM is because it was originally meant to be a full-on reboot of the show, Gen4, specifically, with new versions of Twilight and co., but legal issues -something to do with co-ownership, I think, more or less forced Hasbro to rejig the show so that it was 'original', with new characters and everything, but also a sequel to the previous show; all so that they could coast off the popularity and name recognition of Gen4's success [when, frankly, the best option would actually have been to not only start with a fresh new story, disconnected from prior cannon, but ALSO have entirely new characters, locations, lore, etc.] Pretty much every attempt to try and make Gen5 a continuation of Gen4 is really nothing more than a cynical
